Vintage Wood Maynila Wax Seal

$75.00 USD

In 1574, Manila was given the honorific title of “Insigne y leal ciudad de Manila” (Distinguished and Ever Loyal City of Manila).  It was granted a coat of arms by a decree issued by King Philip II of Spain on May 30, 1596.

The arms is parted in the upper half, the arms of Castile and in the lower half a silver sea-lion, consisting of the upper part of the body of a white lion armed with a sword, and the lower part of the body of a dolphin. The upper half is from the crest of King Philip II of Spain, the king after whom the Philippines were called. The lower half symbolizes the royal territory overseas (ultramar).

These wax seals are replica of the Maynila coat of arms that I modified and added an initial.
