YAGNUS is the reverse of SUNGAY which means horn in Tagalog. This series is my homage to our national animal, the Philippine Carabao. The Philippine water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) are used as draft animals to plow muddy rice paddies and are consumed as food. The carabao has played a significant role throughout Philippine history. The farmers would rely on the carabao’s hard work and patience to get the job done. Profits from this trade eventually gave rise to rich and educated Filipinos who earned the alarm, envy, and scorn of the friars: bestias cargadas de oro (beasts laden with gold). Considered as the farmer’s best friend, the carabao symbolizes loyalty, humility, strength, patience and industry that is held in high regard by every Filipino.
