A Calligraphy and Foiling Workshop
In this whole day workshop, you will learn 2 contrasting beautiful scripts: one using broad edge and the other one using pointed pen. We will teach you the fundamental letterforms and how to combine the two scripts in one beautiful composition. We will end the day with some fun foiling on leather, applying what you learned using the new Lettering Foil Pen.
Part 1: An Introduction to Broad Edge Calligraphy by Carl Chua
We will touch on the basic foundation of the Textura Quadrata script, the most calligraphic form of blackletter and is the form most associated with “Gothic” today. We’ll learn how to write Gothic scripts in its simplest form by preparing ourselves with the basic knowledge on the construction of letters, spacing and proportion.
Part 2: An Introduction to Pointed Pen Calligraphy and Lettering by Dr. Gail Anne B. Madalag, R.Ph
In this section, we will be looking into the basics of pointed pen lettering from ground zero up with the help of Engrosser’s Script as our point of reference. By ground zero we mean – letterforms & strokes, monocline to outline to shading letters to its form. Our aim is to give you a zoom in and out view of pointed pen calligraphy and lettering that will hopefully inspire you to know more about it because of its practicality and beauty especially when it’s applied to foiling.
Part 3: Leather Foiling
We will show you how to combine the 2 scripts and have fun with foiling on leather using the new Lettering Foil Pen and handmade leather goods from The Curious Artisan.
