I named this holder in honor of Lt. Col. Jose Torres Bugallon, town hero of Bugallon, Pangasinan who fought during the Philippine-American War in 1899. Every year the town celebrates Carabao Festival, where the carabaos are painted, dressed up and compete to be the most unique and beautiful carabao. The town’s primary source of income is farming and the town government prohibits the indiscriminate slaughter of carabao to promote its carabao industry. The ban has helped preserve the town’s carabao population.
